THE FORMING OF CLANS

Wolves have been in the land of the clans for centuries. But they have not always been in clans. There were many small packs before. Some ruled by kind and fair leaders and others ruled by tyrants. The Land of the Clans was a large beautiful land, often said to be the most wonderful land of all. But many generations ago, it had not been the most popular of wolf terras.

One day, a beautiful silver backed wolf loped steadily through the Long Terra, a free land that didn?t belong to any of the packs. Nobody had accepted her request to join. She was bearing the pups of a rogue wolf. There would only be more mouths to feed. Her large belly weighed her down. She felt the pups kicking and lay down, too exhausted to move.

Two hours later, four beautiful pups lay at her side. She named the two males Ares and Sirius, the females were called Daine and Sari. Ares was the darkest of them all; he was named after the god of war. His pelt was so white it practically glowed. Sirius didn?t care much about dominance or rank, he was a thinker and a dreamer. He looked similar to his mother but was slightly darker in color. Sari was the most competitive pup of all. She had to be the best at everything. Her pelt was the color of soot but during the winter it lightened and became a light gray. Daine was the most beautiful pup; she had a beautiful coat of flames and golden eyes. She was a gentle and fair creature, and everyone loved her.

When the pups turned one their mother left them and never returned. Ares was the first to leave his siblings. He challenged the Alpha of a powerful pack, and after a long struggle he won. At the age of one, he became the Alpha of the darkest pack. Sari, seeing her brother become Alpha left and challenged the Alpha female of the largest pack she could find. She easily defeated her. Sirius and Daine set out at the same time and each went separate directions. Daine joined a small but growing pack and learned the arts of healing. She went from being the Healer of the pack to Beta. Sirius didn?t want to join a pack. He claimed a land of his own and slowly recruited wolves that he saw fit. Because of the sudden death of her Alpha female, Daine was promoted to Alpha.

Several wolves remembered the day when the strange silver backed female loped into the Lone Terra, carrying pups. They realized that the four pups were now the Alphas of four of the strongest packs.

Ares, Sari, Daine and Sirius were great leaders; the few remaining small packs all broke up and joined one of the four stronger ones. The Alphas met in the Tall Fortress daily to discuss matters that will possibly affect them all. Ambitious Sari called her pack Wind Clan. Ares was the Alpha of Shadow Clan. Gentle Diane led the River Clan and Sirius ruled the wolves of Thunder Clan. The clans lived peacefully for many years. Sirius fell in love with a light brown female named Aurora. When spring came beautiful pups were born in all Clans. But Aurora had a dark secret; the she was the daughter of the previous Alpha of Shadow Clan. She loved Sirius but because of her father?s wish, she killed Sirius in his sleep. Aurora hid the pups from her father because they reminded her of Sirius. When Sari heard about this, her heart was filled with anger and sadness. She cornered the tearful Aurora and killed her. Aurora?s father and a pack of rogue wolves appeared out of nowhere and trapped Sari. Sari was a brilliant fight but she was outnumbered. By the time Ares and Diane arrived, Sari was lingering between life and death. She had killed Aurora?s father and two of the rogue wolves but there were two more left. She had a deep gash on her stomach and the ground was red with blood. Diane tried in vain to heal her sister but it was no use. Sari?s eyes had closed forever. Seeing that both Ares and Diane were there, the two rogues ran for their lives. Ares left Diane to bury Sari; he chased after the rogues and killed them.

Their howl was so eerie and sad that it rose the hairs of the wolves back that the Clan. The wolves of Wind Clan and River Clan joined the morning of their lost leaders. Diane took Sirius?s pups and raised them with her own. Sari never had pups; she had led Wind Clan without an Alpha for many years. Sari?s apprentice became the new Alpha female of Wind Clan. A young brute from Thunder Clan took Sirius position.

When the Alphas died, their spirits formed a Clan called Star Clan. They watched and protected the wolves that had been their only family. When a wolf from one of the four Clans died, their spirit was called towards Star Clan and the spirits of Sari, Ares, Sirius and Diane welcomed their friend into the most respected Clan of all.

Soon, war broke out among the Clans. The new Alphas were not good leaders and the members starting to rebel. The spirits of Star Clan were angry and sent messages through the dreams of the Alphas and Healers. The Warrior Code was created, a code that must be followed by all wolves.

Those who passed now joined Star Clan and their spirits continued to guide the wolves of their clan. Peaceful wolves came to these lands, looking for a place to call home. Some called the land the Land of the Clans but others called it Wolf Haven.

THE SICKNESS

The River Clan, Thunder Clan, Wind Clan and Shadow Clan lived peacefully, they followed the warrior code and all was well. Their forests were large and prey was plentiful and there was no need to fight for land. The four Clans lived in harmony until one day, humans came into their forest.

The humans came and with them they brought hunger, fear and a sickness. In with them, they brought loud monsters that filled the air with smoke. Some even brought sticks and fired at the wolves. Worse of all, they brought the sickness.

The sickness spread like wildfire, killing all in its path. First, the wolf grew feverish and hot, he would began to shiver and tremble. Saliva dripped from his mouth and he would fall to the ground. Suddenly, deadly still. That was not all. When the wolves thought their fallen friend had finally past. The sick wolf would left up and attack. The sickness would pass to the wolf that had been bitten. Some wolves would not let their loved ones get hurt. They ran far and died alone so nobody would be bitten. Others died quietly in thier sleep.

Slowly, the once strong warriors of the Clans grew weak, the Alphas had no idea what to do, the Healer received little messages from Star Clan and the Clans slowly diminished. Those who were left, ran for their lives.

The spirits of the dead became part of Star Clan.

After a few years, the humans slowly left. But the lands would never be the same again. Most of their forests have been cut down. The rivers were quiet for the fish and otters have all left. The lands stank of human and their monsters.

Ten years later, wolves began to arrive. The lands were quiet and peaceful again. Animals started to arrive, build nests and raise their young. Mothers told their young about a land where wolves lived peacefully. A pure land that is now tainted. The young wolves set out to find this land, they had been taught the warrior code and the ways of the Clan. They wanted bring the Clans back.

The humans were gone but they had left a mark. A long thunderous path was built through Thunder Clan. Loud monsters moved tirelessly through it but they never left the path. No wolves went near the Thunder Path unless they had too. But some good came out of the humans leaving. The sickness was gone and the wolves prayed it would never resurface again.

Wolves slowly made their way back to the forgotton land. Soon, the rivers were teaming with fish and the forests were alive with prey. The spirits of Star Clan called their children back to the land of the clans. The humans were gone and the land is free.
